Former CBI director Ranjit Sinha, facing court’s fire for meeting accused persons in various cases at his official residence, on Thursday moved Supreme Court seeking a direction to police for registration of FIR against advocate Prashant Bhushan on perjury charges for making a ‘false’ statement before the court regarding his link with alleged hawala operator Moin Qureshi.Qureshi, a meat exporter, has been facing charges under the Income Tax Act.Filing an application through counsel Chandra Prakash, Sinha cited the court’s December 8 order closing the case against Qureshi after attorney general Mukul Rohatgi’s admission that there is no direct conversation between the businessman (Qureshi) and CBI chief. In his plea Sinha said, “Direct police station to register an FIR against Prashant Bhushan, the petitioner association Common Cause and Kamal Kant Jaswal for making deliberate and intentional false statements on oath before this court.”Rejecting all allegations levelled by advocate Prashant Bhushan, the application said, “There is not a single case in which Sinha had overruled the unanimous opinion of the officers working under him with regard to recommending closure in which they have recommended conversion to RC. Thus falsity of the statement made (by Bhushan) before this court is evident from this court.””The false statements have been deliberately and intentionally mase by the counsel for petitioner (NGO Common Cause) during several hearings…with the objective of misleading the court and hence the counsel is punishable under various sections of the IPC including 193,” Sinha said.He further referred to AG Rohtagi’s submission on September 20 while submitting a four-volume report in a sealed cover to the court, he had said Qureshi had maintained contacts with high and influential dignitaries but there was no direct conversation between him and Sinha.Filing an application Bhushan alleged that “credible information was received that the Income Tax department had prepared the appraisal report which goes into the details of illegal operations of Quershi with various individuals including Sinha.”dna, which had access to Sinha’s 2 Janpath guests’ diary, in September last year had reported a series of news stories exposing Sinha for meeting several accused in various cases including that of 2G scam, coal allocation and Qureshi case.dna also highlighted that Qureshi is a friend of former CBI director AP Singh and the visitors’ diary at Sinha’s residence revealed that he is equally friendly with him.The guests’ diary details disclosed that Qureshi had visited Sinha’s official residence at least 90 times in 15 months.
