SRINAGAR: The Indian army on Sunday intercepted a group of heavily armed guerrillas in Kashmir’s Kupwara district, triggering a fierce gunbattle which is still raging on over the Line of Control (LoC).

“Army troops intercepted a group of heavily armed militants on the LoC in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district on Sunday morning,” a senior police officer said here.

“When challenged, the militants resorted to firing at the troops resulting in a fierce gunbattle that is still going on.”
