Offences have been registered against the organisers of the now-infamous party at Nashik’s Ojhar airport. The party was held on January 31 to bid farewell to a retiring PWD superintendent engineer. Although the organisers had taken prior permissions of the PWD department for organising the party at the venue and that of the excise department for use of alcohol, offences have been registered by the police for violation of a high court ruling on playing music after the permissible time.

Although the organisers had taken prior permissions of the PWD department for organising the party at the venue and that of the excise department for use of alcohol, offences have been registered by the police for violation of a high court ruling on playing music after the permissible time.According to the Dindori police, offences were filed following a complaint lodged by the Janori village sarpanch and a suo motu inquiry into the incident conducted by the police.”Offences have been registered against Vilas Birari, president of Builders’ Association of India, Nashik Branch, owner of Harsh Constructions Sunil Dhage, PWD officials and the owner of Dingore caterers,” said police inspector Sanjay Shukla, incharge of Dindori police station. These people have been booked under section 36 and for violation of sub-sections 134 & 112 of section 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act 1951.Meanwhile, district collector Vilas Patil has asked the departments concerned to give reports on the party incident. The Nashik rural police had conducted a suo motu inquiry on February 2 and taken statements of the villagers, officials of the builders’ association and officials of the PWD.Speaking to the media later, Patil said disciplinary action against the errant officials and employees of the PWD will be proposed.”According to reports, some permissions were taken by the organisers of the party while there appears to be certain violations as well. The PWD and the police have been asked to gather detailed information on the party, particularly with respect to permissions and violations, if any. A report on the case will then be forwarded to the additional chief secretary, PWD, and other senior officials. Disciplinary action will be recommended against the offenders,” Patil said.The Ojhar airport facility with its passenger terminal was built by the PWD last year by spending Rs84 crore. The facility is not yet operational due to issues relating to its handing over to HAL. While the handing over has been given the green light by the defence ministry and the state government, the process is yet to set in motion.
