After reports emerged of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis delaying a flight to the US by around an hour, another BJP leader and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has landed himself in a controversy after he reportedly not only delayed a flight by around an hour but also made three passengers deboard the plane to make place for him.

According to Times Now, three passengers were made to deboard an Air India flight which was headed for Delhi to accommodate Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and his personal assistant. The flight was also delayed by around 57 minutes. It is not clear from where the minister was flying.

However, Rijiju denied having caused the delay in the flight and claimed that the delay took place due to technical reasons.

This incident comes to light after Fadnavis was heavily criticised for delaying a flight, which was carrying around 250 passengers, because his principal secretary travelling with him got his old passport to the airport.

Fadnavis, however, had denied the allegations against him. “The allegation that I forced delay of the flight to Newark is false and misleading,” he said.

Air India had said in a statement, ‪”The flight, AI 191 of 29th June, 2015 was delayed by a total of 57 minutes. The delay was partly due to technical/operational reasons, and also the ATC.”

Former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had demanded an inquiry into the delay of the flight to US. Chavan had also trained his guns on authorities, saying, “Air India officials have flouted rules under pressure.”
