As the BJP and Congress engage in mudslinging over the alleged snooping on Rahul Gandhi, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday poked fun at the Delhi Police and described his personal appearance so that the men in uniform do not have to waste their time and effort. Omar, who voiced his opinions on the matter on twitter, offered his description to the Delhi Police.
The National Conference leader also criticized both the BJP and Congress over the entire sequence of events post the controversy, charging the ruling party of not offering a credible explanation, while accusing the grand old party of scoring a ‘self goal’.
Meanwhile, the Congress demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the issue in the Parliament. The BJP, however, hot back and accused the Congress of raising a non-issue out of ‘frustration’. The ruling party at the Centre also said that such procedures were ‘routine’ and followed even during the previous UPA regime. Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi has denied that his force was profiling opposition leaders at the behest of the government, stating that the procedure has been practiced for decades. The Delhi Police personnel had last week visited Rahul Gandhi’s office and sought details about his height and colour of eyes and hair.
