New sanitation survey under ‘Swachh Bharat’ to be undertaken between Jan 5-20

In the earlier survey of 476 cities, in which Mumbai was ranked 147th, solid waste management had a weightage of only 13 per cent, as against 60 per cent in the new survey. Household and community toilets have a weightage of 30 per cent and city level sanitation plans and ‘Information, Behaviour Change Communication’ 10 per cent. The results of the survey will be announced on the MyGov website on January 25, he added.

Separatist leader Asiya Andrabi dismisses allegations of any IS link

“We do not have any connections with any other group outside the state,” she claimed. Three Hyderabad-based cousins, who allegedly planned to join “jihadi terror groups”, were picked up from Nagpur international airport while on their way to Srinagar, months after they were put under watch for being influenced by online ISIS propaganda. The trio allegedly aspired to meet Andrabi using the name of their late uncle, former chief of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Syed Salahuddin. <!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>

CPCB, a look at the science behind the air quality index

“Engineers can establish these stations, technicians can run it, but you need people who understand atmospheric science, to understand the data,” said Jakhwal. Hence, CPCB regularly absorbs students from various universities training them in their special sets of skills. With two more automatic stations being set up, their biggest asset to maintain air quality, is knowledge, said Jakhwal, which has finally made people take note of the state of affairs.Meanwhile, the honour of ‘severe’ air went to Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Tuesday.White elephants
Scientist at the Air Laboratory for 29 years, DC Jakhwal, calls these stations the CPCB’s white elephants. Necessary as they are, each costs 1.1 crore to set up, roughly 12 per cent of that to maintain the sensitive equipment annually – eight machines for eight parameters – and depend heavily on connectivity to monitor remote areas. For now, the lab has 39 such stations across India connected to it, with Gaya joining on Tuesday itself.

Kashmir: Radical outfit leader Asiya Andrabi addresses Hafiz Saeed rally, stokes controversy

Srinagar: Chief of radical women’s outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Asiya Andrabi, has stoked a controversy by addressing a rally organised by Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led Jamaat-ud-Dawa in Pakistan.

In her telephonic address to the rally, organised in Lahore on 14 August, Andrabi greeted the people of the neighbouring country on their Independence Day.

Saeed was seen sitting on the stage during Andrabi’s address.

Hours before her address, the DeM chief had celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day at her residence.

Dozens of DeM activists had gathered in Bachpora area of the city where they celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Andrabi’s telephone address triggered a controversy with BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president Jugal Kishore demanding strict action against her.

“These are instances of treason and will not be tolerated at all…Asiya Andrabi should be arrested. I expect that she would have been arrested by now and a case of treason would have been registered against her.”

Congress spokesman RPN Singh demanded that concrete action should be taken against those working against the state.

“The NSA-level talks are slated to be held on August 23-24. A lot of talks have happened and the government claims about a breakthrough. But, with the terrorists attacking India, there is an urgent need to take concrete action against them, whether it is Hafiz Saeed or Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi via these talks with Pakistan.”

JKNPP leader Harsh Dev Singh noted that this was not the first time that Andrabi has indulged in such acts.

“I don’t understand why these people have been given a long rope by the present government in J-K. They ought to have booked the culprits by now, because it’s not the first time that Asiya is indulging in such kind of anti-national activities… So, we feel unnerved by the government’s approach in taking action against people like her.”

Andrabi had earlier also celebrated Pakistan’s National Day on 23 March this year and hoisted the flag of that country, following which the police had registered a case against her under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

“A case has been registered against Andrabi at Nowhatta Police station under Section 13 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act,” a police officer said.

He said investigations have started into the alleged hoisting of Pakistani flag by the separatist leader on Monday.

“Further action in the case will be taken as per rules,” the officer said when asked if the firebrand separatist leader will be arrested.

A controversy erupted following media reports claiming that Andrabi had hoisted flag of Pakistan and sung its national anthem on 23 March.
