The Centre, Lekhi said, had given an additional fund of Rs 1200 crore to the Delhi government for sewage treatment but nothing has been done so far. AAP has also done nothing on its promise of ‘swaraj’, she said, noting that adequate funds were not being given to local bodies. RSS pracharaks as BJP’s state unit chiefs – exceptions or new trend?

A party leader said earlier RSS pracharaks came to the BJP generally as organisational secretaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first pracharaks to hold a government post as chief minister and Kushabhau Thakre, also a pracharak, was party president. From 2004, more pracharaks entered the party fold. Once a pracharak joins the party, he has to give up the “veya patra” or statement of expenditure, as advance money is given to pracharaks for monthly expenditures.

MoEF and WII to begin captive breeding of Great Indian Bustard

Annually, GIB lays one egg and two eggs on some rare occasions. But with proper nutrition, ideal location, temperatures, food and management they can produce more than two eggs per year. The ministry has envisaged that about 25-50 eggs of GIB will be collected from wild habitats over a period of five years. These eggs will be incubated, hatched and their chicks will be reared to achieve a breeding population target of 50-100.The union environment ministry has approved a budget of Rs.33.85 crore for the project. While Rs.81.7 lakh has been sanctioned for Rajasthan, Maharashtra will receive Rs.1.38 crore. Gujarat’s share of Rs.1.10 crore is still under process.

Congress dubs Centre’s Smart City project as ‘unconstitutional’

“This money will be used by the government for various purposes like waiving off school fees of children and payment of electricity bills of farmers. The government anyway has to do all these works when it declares drought,” he said. The former chief minister also said BJP’s ally Shiv Sena is “aware that Fadnavis is only a man of words and not action”, but cannot do much about it due to the “compromise” it has done with the BJP on several issues. “This has now reduced the Sena into a party that needs to compromise on issues to stay afloat. It has no relation with ‘Hindutva’ and ‘Marathi manoos’ anymore,” he said.

Cow urine used only in 5 products, says Patanjali

Reacting to the ‘fatwa’, it further said: “This is conspiracy to misguide and confuse crores of poor Muslims who want to use affordable and pure Patanjali products.” Yesterday, a Tamil Nadu-based Muslim organisation had issued a ‘fatwa’ against Patanjali alleging products were made by using cow urine, saying its usage was considered ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam.=Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamat (TNTJ) had alleged that cow’s urine was being used as a ‘key ingredient’ in cosmetics, medicines and food products of Patanjali that are available in open markets as well as online.

BJP rubbishes Mamata Banerjee govt’s claims on West Bengal’s growth

Buttressing his point that Bengal’s 10.48 per cent growth in 2014-15 was due to its low base, he said a poor state like Bihar had grown by 17 per cent for the same reason. The state government’s claim about starting of projects worth over Rs 91,000 crore was also “misleading”, he said, noting that work worth over Rs 70,000 crore pertained to the Centre. He also hit out at the Congress government in Assam for registration of a criminal case against BJP workers over their protests at its office. He alleged that that it took no action against its leaders involved in targeting BJP leaders and the party office. “It is a case of double standards,” he said.

Dear news channel, how does a rape victim’s ‘Facebook lover’ matter?

There are various things we need to remember when we are reporting cases of sexual assault, the most important one being that there are absolutely no mitigating circumstances that will ever justify rape. In case media houses need help on how to report, here’s a Feminism in India guideline on How to Implement Gender Ethical Journalism

Modi govt a failure on all fronts, pursuing vendetta politics: Congress

“The Prime Minister has remained unmoved by agony of the Indian farmer and thousands of suicides failed to move the government to make timely and effective intervention to alleviate their sufferings. This is apparent from the fact that the Prime Minister, who is never tired of travelling, thought it unfit to visit any village or state where a large number of farmers have recently committed suicide,” the Congress spokesperson said.

CPCB, a look at the science behind the air quality index

“Engineers can establish these stations, technicians can run it, but you need people who understand atmospheric science, to understand the data,” said Jakhwal. Hence, CPCB regularly absorbs students from various universities training them in their special sets of skills. With two more automatic stations being set up, their biggest asset to maintain air quality, is knowledge, said Jakhwal, which has finally made people take note of the state of affairs.Meanwhile, the honour of ‘severe’ air went to Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Tuesday.White elephants
Scientist at the Air Laboratory for 29 years, DC Jakhwal, calls these stations the CPCB’s white elephants. Necessary as they are, each costs 1.1 crore to set up, roughly 12 per cent of that to maintain the sensitive equipment annually – eight machines for eight parameters – and depend heavily on connectivity to monitor remote areas. For now, the lab has 39 such stations across India connected to it, with Gaya joining on Tuesday itself.
