Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman Kapil Mishra has been named as new Law Minister of Delhi, after Jitender Singh Tomar resigned in fake degree case.Mishra, a former activist with an international organisation, won from Karawal Nagar by a margin of over 44,000 votes and took oath in Sanskrit in the Delhi Assembly.”I had a meeting with Arvind ji (Kejriwal) and have been informed about the development (of appointment as the law minister),” Mishra, a first time MLA, told PTI.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>34-year-old Mishra’s name was also doing rounds for a ministerial berth when AAP had won a landslide victory in February this year. However, he was made the vice-chairman of Delhi Jal Board.Known as a Kejriwal loyalist, Mishra has been associated with him since the India Against Corruption (IAC) days. When Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan upped their ante against the party leadership, he took a lead in starting a signature campaign urging all MLAs to back Kejriwal.Tomar on Tuesday resigned after he was arrested and sent to four-day police custody by a Delhi court. His resignation has been accepted though AAP has refused to say why Tomar resigned so late. Earlier in the day, The AAP leader, who was taken to Lucknow by train around midnight en route to Faizabad, maintained that his degree was “genuine”.”My degree is absolutely genuine. It is a conspiracy by BJP and the central government. Yes, They are not letting AAP government work,” he told reporters this morning at the railway station in Lucknow from where he was being taken to Faizabad by road.”There is nothing wrong with my degree,” Tomar asserted.Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party today stepped up its attack on the Centre and vowed to continue its “fight”.AAP’s Delhi Convenor Ashutosh said those who oppose the Narendra Modi government “have to pay the price”.”Those who oppose Modi govt have to pay the price.Tomorrow don’t be surprised if AAP leaders are killed in road accidents. But we will fight,” the AAP leader said in an early morning tweet. The AAP government and the Centre have been at the loggerheads over several issues ever since the former came to power early this year.(With PTI inputs)

Now Shanti Bhushan heaps lavish praise on Kiran Bedi, but opposes BJP

Shanti Bhushan might just have created a big stir. The biggest donor to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), often regarded as its patriarch, has openly come out in support of BJP’s Delhi CM candidate Kiran Bedi.

Shanti Bhushan might just have created a big stir. The biggest donor to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), often regarded as its patriarch, has openly come out in support of BJP’s Delhi CM candidate Kiran Bedi.”It’s a masterstroke by the BJP to pitch her as a candidate because she has been a crusader against corruption just as Kejriwal has,” said Bhushan to a newspaper.Bhushan stated that Bedi would run a very efficient and clean administration, adding that she was a firm crusader during the days of India Against Corruption (IAC) and had pro-BJP leanings even back then. He added that she was in no way inferior to Arvind Kejriwal.Bhushan even declared that the AAP should be happy if Kiran Bedi were to become CM of Delhi, because after all she was one of the crusaders in the anti-corruption movement. The octogenarian called for a ‘reorganisation’ of AAP, expressing dismay that the ‘party is not being run on lines it was expected to and what it was established for’.But this is not the first time Bhushan has created controversy with his remarks. He had questioned AAP tactics in the past as well, prompting his own son Prashant Bhushan to intervene.Interestingly, Shanti Bhushan was part of the post-Emergency Morarji Desai government from 1977 to 1979, serving as Union Law Minister.Bhushan also felt that Anna Hazare should be proud if Bedi became Delhi CM. “Anna should be very happy that one of his disciples is going to be the CM of Delhi–either Arvind Kejriwal or Kiran Bedi. This shows that the Anna movement has had a great effect on Indian politics,” he said.Journalist turned-AAP leader Ashutosh was however quick to dismiss Bhushan’s statements. “There is no comparison between Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi,” he said. “She should explain why she joined a party which she herself had described as the most corrupt party and even dissuaded people from voting for it. Arvind Kejriwal has not compromised as far as corruption is concerned. Kiran Bedi’s decision to join the BJP is an opportunistic step and puts a question mark on her participation in the Anna movement,” he was quoted as saying. But Shanti Bhushan was also careful to distance himself from the BJP. Saying he did not agree with the BJP’s communal agenda, Bhushan opined that Bedi was a ‘secular and honest person’ who would not let BJP’s ‘communal politics’ work in Delhi.
