CBI registers case against IRS officer

The official, named Sanjay Kumar, a IRS-1991 Batch is the Financial Advisor as well as the Chief Accounts Officer posted at Employees Provident Fund Organization.

The Central Bureau of Investigation today registered a disproportionate assets case against as IRS officer posted at Employees Provident Fund Organization in New Delhi. According to the CBI, the amount being contested as disproportionate to the official’s income is more than six crore rupees.The official, named Sanjay Kumar, a IRS-1991 Batch is the Financial Advisor as well as the Chief Accounts Officer posted at Employees Provident Fund Organization. According to the probe agency, his wife as well as two firms based at Mumbai and New Delhi are also named as accused in the case.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>”It was alleged that the said officer of EPFO had accumulated assets in his name and in the name of his family members which are disproportionate to his known sources of income. It was further alleged that his wife abetted him in the offence by investing the money through the said firms,” said CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh.According to CBI, searches were conducted at seven locations in New Delhi, Mumbai and Patna.”Searches were conducted at the official and residential premises of accused and others which led to recovery of incriminating documents relating to investments, properties, FDRs and others,” the official added

Ahead of polls, EC asks IT dept to monitor all Bihar bound suspicious transactions

Alarmed over the spurt in Hawala transactions, the poll watchdog has also asked income tax authorities in Delhi and Bihar to investigate the matter and identify and map expenditure sensitive areas and persons associated with Hawala operations.

Showing serious concern over rampant use of illegal money in the ongoing Bihar state assembly polls, the Election Commission has directed all agencies to make all round efforts with real-time intelligence sharing to monitor suspicious transactions.As the election process has already started, EC has directed the agencies that all actionable intelligence must be put to use at once, EC’s spokesperson Dhirendra Ojha said.Alarmed over the spurt in Hawala transactions, the poll watchdog has also asked income tax authorities in Delhi and Bihar to investigate the matter and identify and map expenditure sensitive areas and persons associated with Hawala operations.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>As a follow up action to the commission’s directions, Income Tax authorities after searches have recovered Rs 19 crores unaccounted money in Delhi and Bihar – about Rs5.25 crore in Delhi from 9 persons and Rs13.75 crores from 4 persons in Muzaffarpur, Ojha said.Besides, the election commission has deputed 49 IRS officers as expenditure observers in sensitive zones of Bihar to track expenditure done by different candidates and political parties. These officers were given week long training by the election commission to track and check the use of money.

Ira Singhal, an IRS officer who has topped the prestigious civil services examination, says she hopes that her feat will inspire people to have a different perspective when looking at girls, especially the differently-abled ones. “I have been preparing for this since 2010. I think people will now have a different perspective when looking at girls, especially disabled girls,” Singhal told ANI. The UPSC results this year have seen four women grab the top five spots. A total of 1,236 candidates have been recommended for appointment to IAS, IFS, IPS and central services in the results announced on Saturday afternoon. A total of 254 candidates have also been kept in a consolidated reserved list.
