There she met her neighbours Jaybir and Jitendra who promised to drop her home. But they took her to a slum near Hansi Branch Nagar, where an unidentified person joined the duo and raped her, police said. A 30-year-old man died after he allegedly jumped in front of an oncoming Metro train at Jorbagh station in New Delhi on Friday. The deceased was identified as Manjeet Singh, a resident of Sangam Vihar colony in south-east Delhi. Metro services were briefly affected because of the incident on Friday.No suicide note was recovered from the deceased and police are trying to ascertain the reason behind him taking the extreme step, said a senior police official. A minor girl, who apparently had an affair with a 27-year-old teacher in her school, died after both allegedly tried to commit suicide at a town near Nashik, police said on Tuesday.The 17-year-old girl, a student of class X, had an affair with her ashram school teacher Samadhan Subhash Patil. The duo, both residents of Galane village in Chalisgaon taluka of Jalgaon district, had been missing for last couple of days, Chandwad police station inspector Anant Mohite said.The two came to Chandwad tehsil town in Nashik district on Monday and allegedly consumed poison at Chandreshwari temple there, he said. Later, police rushed to the spot after some locals informed them about the duo lying there. Underage drivers and those without licences cause 1.62 lakh accidents across country

As many as 1.62 lakh road accidents were caused by underage drivers and those without licences between 2012 and 2014, the government said on Monday.Accidents caused by drivers without licences during the period was 1.01 lakh, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan told Rajya Sabha in a written reply. He said under-age drivers, below 18 years old, caused 0.60 lakh accidents in the three years.”Section 180 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 provides for punishment of imprisonment or fine or both for the offence of a owner or persons in-charge of vehicle permitting an unlicensed person or under-aged person to drive it,” the minister said.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Section 181 of the Act provides for punishment of imprisonment or fine or both for the offence of driving by an under-aged person, he added. Fixed deposits of Rs eight crore, belonging to the Hyderabad High Court, were found to have been withdrawn fraudulently from a state-run bank in Malkajgiri area recently, the police said on Tuesday. This equals to only 10.90 lakh households with women graduates of the 1.14 crore households surveyed in total in Gujarat. The Deccan Chronicle quotes the Koyambedu Market Management Committee as stating that deliveries have reduced by 55% the past week and thus vegetable prices have increased tremendously. Crops have also been affected in the state because of the rains which means more vegetables need to be brought in from other states. Small onions, which come from Salem, are now selling at Rs 40 per kg while Bangalore onions are selling at Rs 60 per kg. Onions and tomatoes are essential vegetables but now tomatoes are selling at Rs 80 per kg. Ladies fingers (okra) is retailing at Rs 80 per kg while drumsticks are selling at Rs 150 per kg. A teenager was raped on a moving bus in Karnataka, 40 kms away from Bengaluru, reports NDTV.The survivor is said to be an 18-year-old woman. The driver and cleaner of the bus have been arrested by the police.The incident took place on Thursday in the Hoskote region of Karnataka. The woman is said to be recovering at a hospital in Hoskote.The bus was privately owned and operated, said NDTV.More details are awaited.

Tamil Nadu Medical Council to issue ‘smart’ certificates to doctors

The Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) has decided to issue certificates to all doctors which carry an encryption. Patients can now use a mobile app to swipe the certificate and verify details of the doctor to ensure they are not quacks.A leading daily has reported that these certificates have to be displayed in doctors’ clinics along with the doctor’s photo, name, registration number and field of specialisation. Patients can send an SMS with the doctor’s name and registration number to 56767 to check if the doctor is registered with the TNMC. In case the doctor turns out to be fake, patients can complain to the TNMC. Patients will also be able to use the Q Reader app to verify the doctor’s details. <!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>There are nearly 1.3 lakh doctors registered with the TNMC adds the report. An Indian-origin gynaecologist in the US state of Massachusetts has been arrested for allegedly accepting favours from a pharmaceutical firm in return for prescribing its drugs and allowing sales-representatives to access the records of patients. Rita Luthra, 64, of Longmeadow, was indicted for taking free meals and speaking fees and prescribing an osteoporosis drug made by Warner Chilcott in return. Chennai: Transgender associations demand an end to police brutality and harassment

Four transgender associations in the city have registered a complaint with the police commissioner on Friday. They allege that they are ill-treated and labelled as everything from sex workers to thieves by the police.A report in a leading daily states that they alleged harassment by the police. Transgenders from Thozhi, Nirangal, Snehidhi and Sahodaran took up the issue with police officials and put forth their grievances.They said that they were picked on by cops, especially at night at spots where they find sex workers. A group of junior doctors in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital allegedly assaulted a man and his relatives on Monday for repeatedly asking them to start the treatment of his 6-month-old son, police said. Rezaul Rahman lodged a complaint with the police that his son was suffering from dysentery and was admitted to the hospital. Police said quoting the complaint said even though the child’s condition was deteriorating, the doctors did not attend to him.When he repeated requested the junior doctors to start his son’s treatment, he was abused and assaulted by them. The report adds that the police were called in to control the students.The students have reportedly said that they don’t want the old campus in-charge to come back. According to the report, the college also took away their mobile phones because they didn’t want students to communicate on social media. The students’ in the boys’ hostel have allegedly been asked to vacate or take a transfer certificate. The warden of the girls’ hostel locked them up, the report says. When parents’ tried to reach her, her mobile was off.The report adds that the CEO of the Sairam group visited the college and heard students’ grievances. He also told the students that the old campus in-charge, Balu, was a trustee and couldn’t be removed nor transferred. The report says that the two girls cooked up the kidnapping story because they didn’t want the parent-teacher conference, scheduled by their school for Saturday, to take place. The two girls study in a private school in Semmenchery.The girls’ father went to the police on Friday afternoon when they called him screaming and saying they had been kidnapped, said the report. When the police started to investigate, it was found that the girls were roaming around East Coast Road. One of their classmate’s parents saw them and brought them back home. In a relief to senior citizens, female passengers above the age of 45 and pregnant women, the Railways on Wednesday decided to increase the lower-berth seat quota earmarked for them to four from the current two.The increase, however, will not be applicable in the AC three tier and AC two tier coaches where the quota earmarked for them will remain at two for the lower berths.”Recently, this accommodation earmarked in sleeper class has been enhanced to four lower berths per coach instead of two lower berths per coach as per earlier provision. At Bhavaninagar, a Walima function turned violent when a man attacked his son-in-law and killed him. A report in Deccan Chronicle states that the bride’s brother was attacked and killed by the father-in-law and some others on Sunday night.Two people reportedly called the victim, Mohammed Ahmed, to talk outside and then attacked him. Ahmed had earlier complained to the police that his father-in-law, Sirajuddin, was in possession of illegal weapons. It is stated that he and his father-in-law didn’t see eye-to-eye.According to the report, Sirajuddin was allegedly involved in the illegal weapons business. He is believed to procure weapons from across India and sell them for a profit. When his son-in-law found out he reportedly confronted him, which didn’t go down well with Sirajuddin. A Muscat-bound Air India flight, with 80 passengers on-board, on Sunday landed under emergency conditions at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi after being airborne for some time as it developed hydraulic problem. The flight, however, landed safely.An Air India spokesperson said that the pilot decided to take back the aircraft to Delhi due to technical issue.”The aircraft, an Airbus A319, landed safely at around 8:45 PM.
