The AICC spokesperson distanced the party from Nirupam’s act of sacking the magazine editor. “What does he do in his personal capacity is his responsibility. In his personal capacity, he can be editor of any magazine and decide to keep or sack any employee. The party has nothing to do with it,” he said. In Delhi, Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Raj Babbar said that the issue should be seriously looked into.

The flipside of these 24/7 outrages was that a lot important events weren’t covered by mainstream media, which has limited resources. Hopefully, we will mature as a a society and outrage about things that really matter.

Health and medical departments, and civic bodies are lacking fogging equipment and chemicals nor the state government is providing free medicines to patients
Expressing serious concern over the outbreak of seasonal diseases in Rajasthan, Congress leader Sachin Pilot accused the BJP government of failing to arrest the spread of dengue in the state. “It is unfortunate…a BJP MLA revealed that dengue claimed 30 lives in last six months in Jhunjhunu district alone, and medical and health departments are constantly denying casualties,” Pilot said in a statement.Even the BJP MP from Jhunjhunu has posed a question to the chief medical and health officer on careless attitude of medical and health departments, Pilot said. Health and medical departments, and civic bodies are lacking fogging equipment and chemicals nor the state government is providing free medicines to patients, he said.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>
The larger subtext of infighting between the party leaders is that many of the old guard are not comfortable with Rahul Gandhi as the head of the party.
Sanjay Nirupam
Amidst report of friction between the old guard of Congress and the new turks, because of the party’s slump to a historic low in the last election, senior leader Sanjay Nirupam has now spoken out on the issue. Nirupam said that in many state units, the president of the unit was not getting a free hand to run the party owing to obstruction from the old guard. According to the Mumbai Congress chief, it is the young turks that have to finally drive forward the party and hence the old leadership shouldn’t be an impediment to their growth. <!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>In states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab, Congress has promoted relatively young leadership to the top echelons which has led to much heartburn among its older leaders. But, according to Nirupam, this is only natural and the likes of Ajay Maken, Sachin Pilot and Pratap Bajwa deserve their time in the sun for their hardwork over the years. Nirupam was quoted as saying, “The tussle is a matter of concern among the Congress rank and file nationally. It has to end”. The larger subtext of infighting between the party leaders is that many of the old guard are not comfortable with Rahul Gandhi as the head of the party. Hence many of the younger ones, considered proteges of Congress VP, are facing stern opposition. There has been a lot of speculation about when Rahul Gandhi will formally take over the mantle of the party, but many believe that the simmering dissent has delayed his coronation. Nirupam though believes that it is high time that Congress got its act together to fight against BJP.
Pilot feels that the Congress vice president has been able to energise the party after the rout in the Lok Sabha elections and has been leading it from the front by taking on the ruling BJP inside and outside Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi should take over as Congress president soon, says Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot who also wants Sonia Gandhi to remain the parliamentary party head to guide the organisation.Pilot feels that the Congress vice president has been able to energise the party after the rout in the Lok Sabha elections and has been leading it from the front by taking on the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party inside and outside Parliament.”Rahul Gandhi should take charge soon (as party president),” he told PTI while insisting that it was his personal view and the Congress Working Committee will take a call on Rahul’s elevation. “It will be collective decision of the party,” he said.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Pilot, who was handpicked by Rahul to lead the Rajasthan unit after it was decimated in both Assembly as well as Lok Sabha polls, emphasised that Sonia Gandhi will continue to be the “guiding force” for the party. He said Rahul’s strategy is to build the party in the states so that it regains its strength by next election in 2019 for a comeback at the Centre. He also rejected the charge that the Congress was being “obstructionist” by stalling Parliament, saying it was the main opposition party’s duty to highlight BJP leaders’ alleged involvement in Lalit Modi issue and Vyapam scam.”Just because you have got a majority does it mean that you have got a blank cheque to do as you wish?” he said, attacking the Narendra Modi government over its “stubbornness” on the land bill and “failure” to reach out to the opposition. He said Congress does not need a certificate from BJP on reforms and claimed that the saffron party had blocked Parliament over “smaller” issues when it was in the opposition.
“Congress won in the home turf of CM Vasundhara Raje who is facing allegations of corruption. Voters have understood and are looking at Congress with hope,” Pilot said.
“BJP has lost moral right to govern,” Pilot said.
Terming the results of the 129 civic body polls in Rajasthan a “vote of no confidence” against the BJP government, state Congress president Sachin Pilot on Thursday said Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government has lost the moral right to govern. Citing the reduction in vote share difference between Congress and BJP from 26 per cent in the Lok Sabha polls to 1% now, Pilot expressed satisfaction over the party’s performance, especially in Jhalawar, Baran and Dholpur, which are connected to Raje and her son Dushyant Singh. “Nearly 64 per cent of the electorate voted against BJP in the civic polls which reflects that people are now going against the ruling party. BJP has lost moral right to govern,” Pilot said, attributing BJP’s setback in Jhalawar to the allegations of corruption against Raje for her links with former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Congress won majority in two civic bodies in Jhalawar district represented by Raje in Assembly and her son Dushyant Singh in Lok Sabha, while BJP won three. In Dholpur, Congress secured majority in all three civic bodies of Badi, Dholpur and Rajakhera. Raje belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Dholpur. BJP also lost majority in Baran district’s two civic bodies which falls in Parliamentary constituency of Dushyant.”Congress won in the home turf of Chief Minister who is facing allegations of corruption. Voters have understood and are looking at Congress with hope,” Pilot said at a press conference here.In Ajmer also, he said, BJP could not do well despite the fact that two ministers in the Rajasthan government and one Union Minister hail from there. Accusing the BJP of misusing government machinery during elections, Pilot said despite all efforts, BJP failed to maintain its vote share which declined as compared to the Lok Sabha elections in which the party had won all the Lok Sabha seats in the state.Pilot said he and other leaders raised the issue of corruption in the government during election rallies and meetings and voters gave their mandate accordingly.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Wednesday said that Vasundhara Raje has no moral right to remain as Rajasthan’s Chief Minister as she was involved in acquiring documents for former IPL chief Lalit Modi, who is an absconder of law. “The fact, that the current Chief Minister of Rajasthan was fully involved in acquiring documents for Mr. Lalit Modi who is an absconder of law, who has done multiple violations of Foreign Exchange Management Act who has served notices on many fronts. Someone like that is being helped by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan is now out in public,” he told ANI.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> “The Pradesh Congress Committee has met this afternoon and has unanimously demanded that she must step down with her resignation. She has no moral authority to remain the Chief Minister of Rajasthan,” he added. The Congress leader also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the issue. “I think the facts that have now come to light clearly indicate that there are people high up in the BJP and the Prime Minister must break his silence and tell this nation whether he stands with people who generate black money, who were involved in illegal transactions or he is willing to protect such people,” he said. In more trouble for the BJP which has been defending External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj so far despite opposition demands that she be sacked for helping Lalit Modi, the former IPL boss has claimed that Raje secretly supported his immigration plea in Britain.
He recalled how 10 -20 years ago no political party was willing to give power in the hands of younger generation.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot today said politicians are losing space and shine to Bollywood celebrities and business tycoons.”Today, politicians are losing space and shine to Bollywood icons and businesses tycoons. Young generation in India are looking at icons beyond politicians,” Pilot said during the ongoing ‘Women Economic Forum’ here.”We politicians are not the one younger generation follow or look at. They are looking beyond it,” he added.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Situation in some states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is varied, the former Union Minister said. “At the same time no doubt in village areas in the states like MP, UP politicians are still looked as ideals. There has been greater change in political scenario,” he added.Pilot said 25 years back, there were no many young faces in Parliament but now the situation has changed for the upper and lower house of the country.”At municipal election, zila parishad, block level president you see young faces. Here you see younger faces who are ready to take challenges. That is a real revolution. This scene is there across party lines,” Pilot added. He recalled how 10 -20 years back no political party was willing to give power in the hands of younger generation and said but now the situation has changed. “This country is getting more politically younger compared to any other country on the planet,” he said. “The impact of politicians and politics is on decline for last couple of years,” he added.Pilot further said, “the thing about younger generation is that they think about the country over political views. They want India to be seen not just in south Asia but across the globe, united in its every developmental process.”The Congress leader said elections will come and go, party will win and lose, people will come and go but the country is far more than one man and one party. He said today world is looking at India to provide a leadership globally. “People across globe want to see where India will stand in next 25 to 30 years,” Pilot said.

“At least 10 policemen and as many Congress workers, including Sachin Pilot, were injured,” the police said.
PCC spokesperson Archan Sharma said, “Pilot has received minor bruises in the canecharge.”
A case against protesters was registered at Jyoti Nagar police station.

Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the protesters who tried to break barricades for entry into the Assembly’s cordoned area at Jyoti Nagar barricade point, DCP Ravi Dutt Gaur said.
“In retaliation, the protesters pelted stones at the police, injuring 10 cops,” the DCP said.
Over 100 Congress workers and PCC president Pilot courted arrest under section 129 of CrPC, and later released at different places near Jaipur, he said.
Earlier at the Udyog Maidan, the Congress workers, led by Youth Congress National President Amrendra Singh Raja and state president Ashok Chandana (MLA), organised a meeting and marched towards the Assembly, the DCP said.
