As Ramdev was scheduled to visit Swaminarayan Gurukul on S G Highway area in the city, Patel community youths, associated with the quota agitation body Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), reached the site to protest against him

Five youths were on Thursday detained by police in Ahmedabad for trying to protest against Ramdev over his reported remarks against the Patel quota movement, even as the Yoga guru once again denied making any statement against the community. As Ramdev was scheduled to visit Swaminarayan Gurukul on S G Highway area in the city, Patel community youths, associated with the quota agitation body Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), reached the site to protest against him this evening. “We detained five Patel youths for trying to stage protests on the busy road, as Baba Ramdev was scheduled to arrive at the Gurukul this evening. We released them a couple of hours after Ramdev left,” Sola Police Inspector D V Rana said.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>On Wednesday , Ramdev faced similar protests by the Patel youths, who stormed into his Yoga camp in Surat and shouted slogans against him for allegedly taking government’s side on quota issue.Ramde held a press conference in Surat yesterday and clarified that Patel youths got “misguided” due to some “false” media reports about his statement. The Yoga guru had been in Surat since the last four days to take part in the mass Yoga camp at Puna Gaam area of the city.Three days back, while addressing students at a different function in Surat, he had reportedly ‘advised’ the Patel youths, who are agitating for reservation, to think about the country before thinking about themselves.”Every citizen, be it Patidar (Patel), Kshatriya or Brahmin, should first think about his country, not about themselves,” he was quoted as saying in the report. Enraged over his reported comments, the Patel youths alleged that he was against the community’s demand for reservation under OBC quota and is taking government’s side.Following this, Ramdev held a meeting with the Patel members in Surat and told them that the media report was “false” and created “misunderstanding”. Today, on his arrival at the airport in Ahmedabad, he once again clarified that he has not said anything against the Patel community. “Due to some false media reports, they got angry. They met me yesterday on this issue and went satisfied. I never said anything against Patels. I have no differences with them,” Ramdev said.

Manohar Parrikar

Describing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as someone who tries to gain publicity out of his simple ways, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said success can go to a person’s head if he or she doesn’t have the capability to deal with failure.”When Arvind Kejriwal started making publicity of his simple ways, people started talking about my own simplicity. But I feel that simplicity should not be for publicity… “If a person wants to become successful, he should have the power to absorb failure. Else success tends to go to the head,” Parrikar said.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>He was speaking at the inaugural session of golden jubilee conference of the state unit of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), BJP’s student wing, here. He also said that India needs to become strong not to pick flaws of other countries, but to ensure that no country dares to cast “evil eye” at India.

Shanker Rao C, a labourer, allegedly poured kerosene on his wife Sulochana who worked as a maid and set her ablaze at their house in Katedan area on the evening of December 20, Mailardevpally Police Station Inspector S Venkat Reddy said. “Shanker had brought mutton and asked her to make curry. After eating it, he beat her up saying it wasn’t good enough and had a quarrel with her. However, Mumbai NCP president Sachin Ahir termed the amount as “meagre” and a “joke”.

While the city Congress on Thursday claimed that government increased the amount of compensation for the victims of December 7 fire at Damunagar slum in suburban Kandivali due to the party’s agitation, NCP termed the aid as a joke. Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam said the party workers’ relay hunger strike forced the state government to hike the compensation from Rs 3,800 to Rs 25,000 per family. However, Mumbai NCP president Sachin Ahir termed the amount as “meagre” and a “joke”. In a statement, Nirupam said the devastating fire had rendered over 2,000 families homeless, but no BJP or Shiv Sena leader bothered to visit them. The relay hunger strike by Congress forced the government to increase the compensation to Rs 25,000 per family, he claimed, adding that the government also agreed to probe the cause of the fire and accepted Congress’s demand for rehabilitating the victims on the same site or nearby. <!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The government should waive school fees of the children from affected families, he said. Ahir, on the other hand, termed Rs 25,000 aid as “meagre”. “This is like playing a cruel joke on the affected families. The government is trying to dodge the demand of on-site rehabilitation,” he alleged. Ahir demanded Rs five lakh to the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh to the injured, Rs 50,000 to the affected families and permanent houses for them. Congress-NCP regime had rehabilitated the affected slum dwellers of Nargis Dutt Nagar in Bandra on the same site, he claimed.

The country’s financial capital has been witnessing lower than normal average temperatures for the last three days, an unusual phenomenon since a decade, a Regional Meteorology Centre official said on Thursday. Today, Mumbai recorded minimum temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees below the normal for the month of December. The minimum usually is 17 degrees Celsius at this time of the year. “This was the second lowest minimum temperature recorded during the last ten years,” the official said, adding that the lowest temperature in the month of December in Mumbai was recorded in 1949 when it touched 10.6 degrees Celsius. <!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Attributing the present chill to the cold northerly winds, the official said, these winds are reaching upto the north coastal Maharashtra from across Rajasthan and Gujarat and thus leading to drop in the minimum temperatures in all these areas. The maximum temperatures too have witnessed a slight dip in the city, the official said, adding that this cold spell would continue till the wind patterns do not change.

Nimboo paani to naankatai: What would be the next Android name?

Readers of dna have offered some of their ideas after Google CEO Sundar Pichai hinted at the possibility of naming the next Android after an Indian sweet.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai

Born in Madras (now Chennai), Sundar Pichai became the first India-born CEO of Google Incorporated. The 43-year old alumnus of IIT-Kharagpur, during his visit to India in December, hosted an open address to students from all over India, at the Delhi University Campus. It was only natural that questions came pouring in, when he took to the stage. However, the question that stumped the CEO of the tech conglomerate was if the next Android platform can be named after an Indian dessert.Google’s Android OS has the longstanding reputation of being named after different sorts of sweets and desserts that run along the alphabetical order. It started with Android 1.5 being named ‘Cupcake’. With more updates, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jellybean, Lollipop and finally, Marshmallow, were released. It was then, that the proclivity of Indians to sweet, gave them away at the address in Delhi.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>”When I meet my mom, I will ask for suggestion,”, Pichai said. He added, Google may even put up an online poll to decide the name for the upcoming Android N.But before Google could, dna came up with its own poll from the comments of the readers on its Facebook page.Pichai will ask mom! Any suggestions?
Posted by DNA India on Thursday, December 17, 2015While there were suggestions ranging from Gulab Jamun, Payasam, Rasgulla to Nankhatai and Jalebi but Aanand Rangaramanujam’s suggestion ‘Laddu’ clearly stole the show. However, most of the suggestions did not start with ‘N’. But some creative readers took up the challenge and went the extra mile.Mani Shankar Singh gave an alternative if Google insists on ‘N’. he posted, “Jalebi is good and if N is necessary….then leave sweets and name it “Nimbu-Mirchi”. In my opinion, it is the best. Chatpata Android….kyon??”Jai Mishra also got his creative juices flowing and commented, “Android Samosa… With Hari Chatni update and later with Lal Chatni Update… “Some readers like Sourabh Sharma seemed to be under the impression that ‘M’ is the auspicious letter. He suggested, “The name will be on alphabet “M” and it must be a sweet dish as what androids pattern is…..So the name can be Android makhan or Android malai”. Hemchander thought the new android should break away from the pattern of naming its versions as sweets, “why not Android PaniPoori” he commented. At such a dire situation, it can only be hoped, that Lakshmi Pichai, the mother of Sundar Pichai, comes up with a fitting suggestion.Related read: After Kitkat and Lollipop, Sundar Pichai promises an Indian dessert name for next Android

The efforts put in by the children of 1993 serial blasts convict Shariff Parkar to ensure that their ailing father’s life would be extended by a few more months, bore no fruit. Parkar died in Nashik civil hospital on Thursday. They allege that apathy of JJ hospital in Mumbai and jail authorities resulted in the death of the 83-year-old man, who was serving his sentence in Nashik Road prison in poor health. As per the Supreme Court direction, Parkar was asked to surrender before the sessions court in May 2013 and continue to serve the remaining part of his life sentence. Accordingly, he was lodged in Nashik prison. However, in November this year, Parker suffered a paralytic stroke and was shifted to JJ hospital for treatment. The man was also suffering from dementia. After treating him for 10 days, hospital authorities told his family to take him back to jail. However, the family approached Bombay High Court and filed a petition to direct the hospital not to discharge him. A stay order was slapped on his discharge and he remained in the hospital. On December 7, the authorities issued a medical certificate which said that the patient was on the path of recovery. Finally, on December 8, he was sent back to the jail. <!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Parker’s son Faizal said, “We were pleading the hospital not to discharge my father, but they didn’t pay any heed. CPI(M) on Thursday sought Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s urgent intervention to ensure action against some police personnel for “ignoring” a complaint about alleged trafficking and rape of a minor girl from West Bengal. In a memorandum submitted to Singh, the party requested him to ensure that the alleged victim gets free medical treatment and a rehabilitation package covering her lifelong expenses. According to the Left party, the girl, a native of Mograhat in South 24-Paraganas district, was abducted a year ago from Diamond Harbour when she was 17.The party claimed the girl suffered “unbelievable” violence and trauma and was dumped by one of her alleged traffickers in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital here and has been diagnosed with HIV. “The girl had rung up her mother six months ago and gave exact location of where she was in Delhi. The mother rushed to the police station in Mograhat and the police directly spoke to the girl.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>”But unbelievably, the police did not act. If they had the girl might have been saved. I have demanded immediate action against the police personnel involved,” CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat told reporters, while being accompanied by the girl’s mother Lal Bano Bibi.Karat said the role of West Bengal authorities has been “absolutely shocking” as more than a year after the girl went missing, no case has been filed though the girl was a minor at the time of abduction. “When will central and state governments take action to save our women from criminal networks of traffickers and conniving police?” she asked.

In a new twist to the ongoing political drama, the Gauhati High Court on Thursday kept in abeyance all decisions, including the removal of Arunach Pradesh Assembly Speaker Nebam Rebia, at a special “session” on Thursday, hours after Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was “voted out” and a dissident Congressman was “elected” as CM in a hotel.Coming down heavily on the notification issued by Governor J P Rajkhowa advancing the session, Justice Hrishikesh Roy observed that prima facie it was in violation of Art 174 and 175 of the Constitution dealing with convening of the session Governor and his message to House. The court order came on a writ petition filed by the Speaker challenging the Dec 9 notification issued by the Governor advancing the Assembly session to December 16 from the scheduled day of January 24, 2016.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Earlier today, in a bizarre turn of events, Opposition BJP and rebel Congress MLAs got together in a local hotel to “vote out” the Nabam Tuki-led Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh and to “elect” a rebel Congress MLA as the new “chief minister”. The dramatic development came a day after they “impeached” Speaker Nabam Rebia in a make-shift “Assembly” premises in a community hall.Issuing notice, Justice Hrishikesh Roy kept in abeyance the impugned decisions including the notification issued by the Deputy Speaker restoring the membership of 14 suspended MLAs and the holding of the “session” at a new place and also the decision taken at the “session” yesterday in which the Speaker was removed. The judge allowed petitioner Kapil Sibal to implead the government of Arunachal Pradesh as a party respondent. He posted the case for next hearing on February 1, 2016.Eleven BJP MLAs and two Independent MLAs joined hands with 20 Congress rebels to meet at a conference hall of a hotel here as the Assembly premises have been sealed since Wednesday. Today, a “no confidence” motion moved by BJP MLAs and Independent MLAs was “adopted” with Deputy Speaker T Norbu Thongdok, who is also a rebel Congressman, in the Chair.A total 33 members of the 60-member house, including 20 dissident Congress MLAs, later “elected” another dissident Congressman Kalikho Pul as the new “chief minister” of the state. The Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and his 26 supporting MLAs boycotted the proceedings terming them as “illegal and unconstitutional”.The Chief Minister later wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking their intervention to “uphold” the Constitution in the face of the “unprecedented murder” of democracy and “bypassing” of a democratically-elected government by Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa.Angry over the Governor’s action in calling a session of the Assembly bypassing the government the Congress has paralysed the Rajya Sabha for the last two days. MORE PTI UPL Yesterday, a delegation led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi met President Mukherjee in Delhi and lodged a strong protest against Rajkhowa.”It is clear that the BJP top leadership in connivance with some dissident Congress MLAs planned to destabilize the democratically-elected Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh. This is obviously a pre-planned design involving the highest functionaries of the Central Government in this unprincipled enterprise,” the Congress chief told reporters after handing over a memorandum to the President. On Thursday’s “proceedings” were held in the new venue as the make-shift premises where Speaker Nabam Rebia was ‘impeached’ on Wednesday was vandalised by miscreants and the MLAs opposing Tuki were not allowed to enter the Assembly premises by security forces. As per directive of the Speaker, the district administration has sealed the Assembly premises since Wednesday. The MLAs then with “due consent” from Governor J P Rajkhowa shifted the venue to the conference hall of a in Naharlagun. The “session”, which was chaired by Deputy Speaker T Norbu Thongdok passed the motion by voice vote and signature consent by 33 members in the absence of 26 Congress MLAs including Tuki and his council of ministers.Thongdok announced Pul as the “new Leader of the House” and said that the “proceedings” would be sent to the Governor who would ask the new chief minister and his council of ministers to take the oath of office shortly.

Delhi HC dismisses CBI’s plea to probe into AAP’s funding

The plea, moved before the high court on February 4, had also sought CBI probe against Home Ministry officials, who in their report had earlier stated that donations made by eight foreign residents to AAP, were not in violation of the FCRA.

The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed a plea seeking CBI probe into past and present funding of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the alleged violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).”The petition is dismissed,” a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said, while passing order on the PIL alleging that AAP has been receiving foreign funds in violation of FCRA. The bench also said that the petitioner, advocate M L Sharma, approached the investigator and it is not that the agency has declined to entertain his complaint.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had informed the bench that nothing was found against AAP in its probe regarding allegations that it had received offshore funds in violation of FCRA provisions, after which the court reserved its verdict on the plea. AAP had termed the allegations against it as “baseless” while contending that the party had not flouted any law in receiving foreign funds and got donations worth Rs 30 crore from Indian citizens only, of which about Rs 8.5 crore had come from NRIs.The plea, moved before the high court on February 4, had also sought CBI probe against Home Ministry officials, who in their report had earlier stated that donations made by eight foreign residents to AAP, were not in violation of the FCRA. Denying violation of foreign exchange or other laws, AAP had earlier contended that the PIL accusing it and its founding members of having illegally received foreign funding was “scandalous, frivolous, motivated and baseless”.AAP had claimed that it has “very small amount of funds and has the most transparent method of political funding among all parties”. The PIL had also alleged that “undisclosed funding to AAP was coming from terrorist groups” and that the party had succeeded in stalling Home Ministry probe against it and managed to get a favourable reply to mislead the court. It had alleged that it was a case of serious corruption on part of the ministry officials who filed an “un- investigated” report despite high court direction. The ministry in its report had said that eight people with foreign addresses made donations to AAP and “their passport numbers as mentioned in the contribution report of EC were checked and it was found that they possess Indian passports and NRIs holding Indian passports are not a foreign source”.

First planeload of Syrian refugees headed to Canada

After months of promises and weeks of preparation, the first planeload of Syrian refugees was headed to Canada on Thursday, aboard a military plane to be met at Toronto’s airport by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Canadas Prime Minister Justin Trudeau poses with airport staff as they await Syrian refugees to arrive at the Toronto Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, Ontario, December 10, 2015.

After months of promises and weeks of preparation, the first planeload of Syrian refugees was headed to Canada on Thursday, aboard a military plane to be met at Toronto’s airport by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.Trudeau’s newly elected Liberal government scaled back the number of Syrian migrants it will accept by year end after the attacks in Paris sparked concern that the election promise to bring in 25,000 by Dec. 31 would not allow enough time for security checks. Some 300 Syrian refugees were expected to arrive on two military flights, the first arriving in Toronto late on Thursday and the second in Montreal on Saturday. Trudeau has said 10,000 will be resettled by the end of the year and a further 15,000 by the end of February.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>At the airport, privately sponsored refugees have already been arriving on commercial flights in recent days at a separate terminal from the military airlift. Those arriving on Thursday were met by sponsors and ordinary Canadians who had come to the airport to greet the much-anticipated newcomers.”They are very tired, but they are happy and hopeful,” said Soriya Dasir, a worker with Abraham Festival, a group that sponsored a single mother and three children who had been living in a camp in Jordan for two years, as she escorted them past waiting media.Nearby, Shai Reef, 20, held up a sign that read: “Welcome to Canada” in Arabic.”I’m here to show my solidarity for and support of the Syrian people going through genocide in Syria,” Reef said. “As Jews, we were also locked out, I know what it feels like.”Toronto’s mayor tweeted a welcome, while the Toronto Star, the country’s largest newspaper, covered its front page with a “Welcome to Canada” banner headline in English and Arabic, along with an article explaining Canadian weather, ice hockey and quirky local slang. The Syrians’ reception in Canada contrasted sharply with that of the neighboring United States, where fear of Syrian refugees following the deadly Nov 13 Paris attacks spurred opposition to allowing them entry. Some US governors said their states would not accept Syrian refugees. With security concerns, immigration paperwork and the flight’s late-night arrival, refugees on the military aircraft being met by the prime minister were to be put up at a nearby hotel for the night before meeting their sponsors and resettlement agencies on Friday. While one provincial premier and some opposition politicians initially said Trudeau was accepting too many refugees too quickly, his decision to push back the timeline by two months silenced much of the criticism.Trudeau was elected to a surprise majority in October promising to accept more refugees more quickly than the previous Conservative government.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday ducked a question on US Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s controversial remarks over total shutdown of Muslims entering America but said in India, “we don’t look towards communities with suspicion”.On being asked by an American reporter to respond to Trump’s comments in the aftermath of the California shooting, Parrikar said the question has the “potential of a nuclear bomb” but did not give a clear response to what he thought of the remarks.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>”I’ll not comment on what has been talked about in the US, but as far as India is concerned, we have the second largest Muslim population in the world and we gel well.”We believe that everyone has equal opportunity, equal rights.”Yes, maybe there are a few small pockets of extremism, radicalisation, but they are too few to treat the different sections of society differently,” Parrikar said.”In India, we have equal rights for everyone, and we don’t look towards communities with suspicion. Those who are radicalised is a different issue. We tackle them separately, but that is – those were terrorists,” Parrikar said in response to a question. On Tuesday, the controversial business tycoon, Trump, called for “a total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the US in the aftermath of the California massacre, in his most divisive remarks yet that drew widespread global condemnation including from his party’s rival candidates and the White House.According to a statement issued by his campaign, Trump called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”Parrikar, the first Indian Defence Minister to have addressed the Pentagon correspondents, earlier held talks with his American counterpart Ashton Carter on key defence and regional and global security issues.

To ensure this the Tribunal has entrusted state governments the task of monitoring and regulating rafting activity. It asked the state governments of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh to create actions plans for identifying rafting camps.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) passed some significant orders on Thursday relating to conservation of river Ganga, rafting and camping in Uttarakhand. The green court has banned camping activity from Kaudiyala to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand with immediate effect while it has allowed rafting in the river.Further, the bench also banned mechanised riverbed mining in Ganga up to Haridwar and put in place a complete prohibition on use of plastic in the 140-km belt between Gaumukh and Haridwar. This ban will come into effect from February 1 next year and its violation will attract a fine of Rs.5,000.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>River rafting on the banks of Ganga from Shivpuri to Rishikesh is a popular tourist attraction in Uttarakhand and the Tribunal had stopped rafting activity for a while now. Petitioners against rafting activity had claimed that rafting camps being temporary in nature did not have adequate sewage and sanitation facilities and led to disturbance in the river and wildlife ecology.Petitioners had added that a lot of trash is left behind as there is consumption of food and alcohol. While allowing resumption of rafting, NGT observed that it does not harm the environment and hence should be permitted but with a caveat that the rafting camps in Uttarakhand should be temporary in nature and will be allowed only on identified sites. To ensure this the Tribunal has entrusted state governments the task of monitoring and regulating rafting activity. It asked the state governments of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh to create actions plans for identifying rafting camps. With regards to banning plastic, it also added that between Gaumukh and Haridwar all ashrams, dharamshalas will have to be mindful about solid waste management. Any kind of dumping of waste in Ganga from these sites would attract environment compensation, the green court said.

Hit-and-run case: Bombay High Court acquits Salman Khan; then, who killed Nurulla Sharif?

Justice AR Joshi of the HC, too, rejected these arguments. But it didn’t go against the actor as he pronounced that “the prosecution had failed in proving that he (Khan) was guilty”.

The Bombay High Court (HC) didn’t exactly answer that. Strictly speaking, it was not bound to as the case related only to whether Salman was at the wheel or not on the day of the accident. The whodunnit can only be answered by the Supreme Court now – if the Maharashtra government goes on appeal. All that was clear on Thursday were these: Salman was not drinking and driving, and he is not guilty. Salman’s lawyers had argued in the lower court that Nurulla Sharif died when the damaged car fell on him after slipping from a crane called in by the police to tow it away. The actor’s family driver, Ashok Singh, had claimed that he was driving the car.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Justice AR Joshi of the HC, too, rejected these arguments. But it didn’t go against the actor as he pronounced that “the prosecution had failed in proving that he (Khan) was guilty”. On May 6, the lower court had convicted the actor and sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment. On Thursday, the HC quashed the order, saying, “The trial court had erred in accepting the prosecution evidence.” As to Salman running away from the scene and whether he would be punishable under the Motor Vehicles Act for not offering medical aid to the person injured by the car in which he was seated, the HC observed: “The mob gathered after the accident was in a furious mood. Some were even carrying rods and other things in their hands. In the considered view of this court, the charge cannot be attracted, considering the then circumstances.” In any case, since the case was only against Khan, the HC cannot now order the arrest of Singh or carry out further investigations. The case, naturally, had drawn a lot of public attention and many believed that the actor was indeed guilty. Justice Joshi had a few words on this public perception. “Law does not have any place for general public opinion. It cannot be swayed away by any popular belief that a particular accused, because of his standing in society, could have committed the offence…,” he said adding “Mere suspicion cannot be an accepted material to hold a person guilty.” Justice Joshi also said that the probe into the case had various flaws. He said not recording evidences of appropriate witnesses and omissions in injured witnesses’ testimony would definitely create a doubt about the involvement of Salman. “The entire evidence was circumstantial in nature,” he said. With these words, he acquitted Salman of all charges in the case. Salman, meanwhile, was called to appear before the HC on Thursday to hear the judgment. He looked drowsy and non-emotional. Pronounced free, Salman broke down in tears. His brother-in-law Ayush Sharma and sister Alvira Agnihotri were beside him. Later, he composed himself and smiled at his lawyers. The actor later tweeted: “I accept the decision of the judiciary with humility. I thank my family, friends and fans for their support and prayers.” For Khan, it means an end to a 13-year ordeal. But all is not over yet. There’s still the black buck case. What’s the hit-and-run case?On September 28, 2002, Salman Khan is alleged to have been in an inebriated state and driving and ran over five persons, who were sleeping outside a laundry in Bandra. One person – Nurulla Sharif – succumbed to his injuries. The other four suffered injuries. What’s the state stand?Minister of state for home Ram Shinde told mediapersons that the state government would decide whether to approach the SC or not on Monday or Tuesday. He said that since the HC verdict came only on Thursday, the government is yet to receive a copy of the judgment. After receiving it, the state would send it to law department for advice and take a call. What’s the black buck case?
