After axing eight ministers on Thursday, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav followed up the reshuffle of his ministry by inducting 10 new ministers on Saturday. Besides, some ministers who have performed well, have been promoted. The reshuffle bears the unmistakable stamp of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, indicating once again that the Yadav chieftain is not going to give his chief minister son a free hand anytime soon. The most startling induction, which virtually left political watchers agape with its incredulity, is that of former Akali leader from Punjab, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, who is not even a member of any House in the UP legislature.<!– Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Besides, he have never had the remotest link with UP politics, save for his long-time bonhomie with Mulayam.Political pundits had expected the reshuffle to be an “Operation Clean” by the youthful CM in preparation for the 2017 Assembly election. However, all such hopes were effectively dashed when the names of the ministers appointed or promoted were called out at Saturday’s brief swearing-in ceremony. The analysts were stunned at the promotion of controversial minister of state Vinod Singh alias Pandit Singh to cabinet rank as he is known more for the criminal cases against him rather than any political or ministerial efficiency. Same is the case with Tej Narain Pandey aka Pawan Pandey who boasts a similar reputation and track record.Ministers like Gayatri Prajapati, Parasnath Yadav and Ram Murti Verma, who have allegedly brought infamy to the Akhilesh regime with their ‘high-handed methods’, have not been touched, and promise to be a thorn in the side for the CM.If the entire exercise was supposed to be one aimed at an image makeover, it failed miserably. It has also proved once again that it is Mulayam who is calling the shots from the wings while Akhilesh continues to face the brickbats for the poor performance of his government.
